What is the "Bottom Line"?
You will find links to "the Bottom Line" in several places on our website. The Bottom Line is where we offer you many different questions that might interest you, together with answers drawn from our ever-growing ratings database. For example, if your recent activity on the site seems to suggest that you're interested in wines from a region such as Bordeaux, you may find that The Bottom Line offers you a question like "Which wineries in Bordeaux have received the most ratings for their wines from our users?". When you click the 'submit' button next to the question, it will be answered from the Wine Collaborator database using our very latest information! Alternatively, in The Bottom Line you can select a region of your choice and the relevant answers will be given to you. Since The Bottom Line works in a similar way with any Country, Collaborator name, Varietal, Vintage, Region or Winery, it is a very powerful tool for exploring the wealth of information that we have about all of those elements in our stored ratings.
How do I change my groups' password?
Only the creator of a group can change the password for that group. If you are the creator of a group, then go to Community. Click the link entitled "...More". Click the link for your group. Then click the link "[change group password]". From there please follow the instructions on the screen.
What does the "disband" button do to my group?
The disband button removes everyone from the group and then completely removes the group from Wine Collaborator. Only the creator of the group may disband it. This operation is not reversible so be sure you really want to disband your group before you click the button!
Why can't I find a particular wine on the site?
The only wines that you can find on Wine Collaborator are wines that have received a rating from a registered Collaborator. Once you are a registered Collaborator, by rating a wine yourself that does not already exist on the site, you will immediately add it to the repertoire of wines listed on Wine Collaborator and visible to other Collaborators.
Why can't I search by some vintages?
The vintages made available for search in the "Find A Wine" utility are limited to those vintages that have at least a single related wine rating.
Why is the food list so limited?
For simplicity. At the time of rating, a collaborator can enter any food of his or her choice. If we listed every food entered, the list would get very long and the "collaborative" value of the information entered could be diluted. For search purposes, we therefore simply try to offer some main food types or categories in the pull-down list, but the ratings database will certainly accept any food suggestion that you wish to make, and Collaborators will see your recommendation whenever they view detailed information about a particular wine that you have rated.
What is the Wine Collaborator Score?
The Wine Collaborator Score (WCS for short) is a standardized way of referencing how good a wine has been judged to be by the Collaborators who have rated it. The WCS of any wine is based upon all the ratings so far given to that wine, and is calculated to eliminate the effects of any one Collaborator's personal bias for a particular varietal, or habitual harshness or leniency in giving ratings. As a quality metric, WCS tops out at a theoretical limit of about 3000 and any score of 3000 would reflect a superlative wine. It is very rare for a wine to have a WCS above 2750, and currently only about 10%of wines have a WCS above 2500 while 30% exceed 2250. The average WCS for all our ratings is very close to 2000, and only 2% of all wines rated on the website score under 1000. We hope that you will come to rely on a high WCS score as a good indicator of a wine of high quality, and one that is not unduly influenced by any single person's opinion or bias. Note that the WCS of a wine will change over time, particularly as more people rate it. The more times a wine has been rated, and the more Collaborators who have rated it, the better the WCS becomes as an indicator of collaborative opinion about it.

Wine Collaborator Score
Who is Wine Collaborator aligned/associated with?
We are totally independent. If you have interest in doing business with Wine Collaborator, please e-mail admin@winecollaborator.com.
Who sees/uses my rating info?
Your rating information is available to view on the Wine Collaborator website, and your opinions will help many wine lovers with their choice of wines! The website presents many statistics that will include your ratings as part of averages or lists that are designed to inform our Collaborators and offer guidance on selecting wines.
Can I change my user name/password?
You can change your password at any time. It is actually a good habit to change your password regularly. To change your password visit "My Profile" and click the "Update Password" link to complete this task.
We do not allow users to change their user name at this time.
Can I belong to more than one group?
At this time, users may only join one group, but in future it will become possible for a Collaborator to participate in several groups. Stay tuned for when this feature becomes available!
What is a "WCS Bin"?
We classify our rated wines into seven categories or 'bins' based on their WCS, with very nearly one-seventh of all rated wines in each bin. We do this to provide helpful shorthand for Collaborators who are interested in the general standing of a wine rather than its precise WCS score. The bins are given numbers (I highest to VII lowest) and names like Sovereign, Magnum, Piccolo, etc to assist in recognition of the categories. Naturally, as the WCS of a wine evolves it may move from one bin to another, and the bin boundaries may also change slightly as more and more wines are rated. Nonetheless, we expect that the WCS bin of a wine will give you a rapid impression of its general quality, as rated by our Collaborators.
How do I add a wine to my cellar?
To add a wine to your cellar, you need to define the wine that you want to add using "Find A Wine" (the wine must already exist in the Wine Collaborator database). Once you find the wine that you want to add, click on its bottle name. Then scroll to the bottom of the page and, under "Add this Wine to My Cellar", enter a Quantity. The Cellar stock will then be set to that quantity. Note that in My Cellar, you can decrement or increment the available quantity of any wine, as you consume or acquire more of it, using the +/- keys provided.
Why rate?
Wine Collaborator is based on the collaboration and shared opinions of many. We strive to have the most comprehensive informational wine site on the Internet. The more our Collaborators rate the wines that they drink, the more informative the website becomes for everyone else.
In the near future, Wine Collaborator will learn what our more frequent Collaborators like based on the wines that they have rated. The more wines you rate, the better Wine Collaborator will be able to help you to find excellent wines to suit your tastes and pocket book!
What if I did not write all of the wine information down, or cannot remember all of it?
Because Wine Collaborator gives equal standing to the opinions of every Collaborator, the quality of our data depends upon the accuracy of data entry when each user rates wines. If you feel you are missing some important information about a wine that you wish to rate, try using Find A Wine to see if another user has entered information about that wine before. If the complete set of information cannot be found, please do not attempt to enter the rating until all necessary pieces of information have been remembered, since the Rate A Wine utility won't accept a rating where key information is missing.
What if I make a mistake while rating? Can I go back and change it?
Yes. At any point in time while entering the bottle's information, you can backup one entry to fix your mistake. Also at any point, you can completely start from a clean slate by clicking the "Start Over" button. While we don't currently have a way for you to correct a previous rating (so rate carefully and watch the spelling before you push the submit button, please!), you can rate any wine up to three times. This allows you to offer further opinion about a wine if you re-taste it after some years of evolution in the bottle, or if you change your opinion about it over time.
How do I add a wine to my wish list?
To add a wine to your wish list, you need to find the wine you want to add using "Find A Wine". Once you find the wine you want to add, click on its bottle name. Then all you need to do is click the link "Add to Wish List".
